Peterhead School is a large NE to Yr 8 school on the western edge of Flaxmere, Hastings.  

 

Our school has a diverse roll (500-530 students) 66% Maori, 25% Pasifika, 9% European/other and is a Decile 1.
​Our students come from a wide range of areas but predominately from within our zone. 

Peterhead School has a large, exciting and very skilled team of Teachers, Learning Coaches and support staff. Our aim is to provide students with a safe child centred learning environment that promotes learners successfully achieving to their potential.  We offer a broad 'inquiry based curriculum and have technology rich learning environment with our senior school having the use of iPads and Chromebooks on a 1-1/1-2 ratio.  We have an emphasis on Literacy (reading and writing) and Numeracy (mathematics).  

To support learning and special needs we have both a SWIS ( Social Worker in School) and SENCO ( Special Education Needs) Co-ordinators. We are a PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning), "Incredible Years' and Restorative Practice school.  To read more about PB4L in Schools click here. 

Students at Peterhead participate and are very successful in a huge range and variety of interschool and cultural events. Including: Kapa Haka, Rugby, Netball, Basketball, Ki O Rahi, Volleyball, Swimming, Triathlon, Tabloids, Chess, Mathletics, Technology Challenges. We employ Te Reo, Tikanga and Taiaha teacher specialists to provide students with opportunities to develop the abilities to participate fully in a bicultutal community.  We cater to our Intermediate School by providing a Technology partnership with Flaxmere College to experience subjects such as music, wood tech, cooking, Maori visual arts, whakairo (carving) and mau rakau (use of taiaha).  

We are also a Teacher Training 'partnership school' with EIT Hawkes Bay.
